467 SAVED!
Local Liberal Democrats and residents win battle to keep vital bus route
Transport for London has announced that the 467 bus route is not to be scrapped as originally planned. The service, which runs between Chessington and Epsom, had been earmarked by Ken Livingstone to lose its daytime service almost completely. However, a huge response from the public has seen a u-turn and the service will now remain in its current form.
Strong response
In a statement, Transport for London admitted that 'the links which the 467 provides are difficult to make by other bus services' and acknowledged the 'strong response' from local residents to the plans to axe the service. Local Liberal Democrats in Chessington collected over 1600 signatures to present to Transport for London, which reflected the huge unease at the potential loss of such a vital service.
Liberal Democrat councillor for Chessington South Ward, Patricia Bamford, who led the campaign, said:
"I am absolutely delighted that TfL have seen sense. This service is vital to our residents, whether they be children attending schools in Epsom or the elderly needing reliable access to local health services. The sheer volume of signatures we were able to present to TfL was a key factor.
"We've worked hard alongside residents on this campaign to help protect the interests of the most vulnerable in our community- a small but significant number who rely on this service to go about their daily lives."
