Election statement 2014
I was born in Cumbria and come to London to university where I completed a BA (Hons) in Chinese. Following this I worked for British Airways which allowed me to put my languages to good use and, after a break to have children, moved for a time to the Financial Services industry.
My husband and I moved to Surbiton when we were expecting our first child in 1996. We considered many areas of London and have been so delighted with our choice, becoming part of this welcoming, supportive and beautiful community. We had a second child in 1998 and both our children still attend local schools.
Voluntary work has always been important to me and I was a Governor at Maple Infants School. I also volunteered for Victim Support, specialising in domestic abuse and for Kingston Advocacy Group where I supported an adult with learning difficulties. I am currently a Governor at the Hollyfield School.
Professionally, I manage Kingston Carers’ Network Young Carers’ Project, supporting children and young people who have inappropriate caring responsibilities for a family member. It is a busy and extremely rewarding job which I enjoy very much.
I look forward to the opportunity of representing the residents of St Mark’s. I am a great believer in a strong community and would put in every effort to continue the hard work and successful outcomes achieved by our local Liberal Democrat councillors.
