Fly Tipping a Scourge

The government has just announced plans to give councils more powers to tackle fly tipping. But with existing powers not always being used by our current Tory-run Council, the real issue is what can be done to tackle this perennial problem.

Local campaigners, Damon Noad and Simon Edwards, have taken up the cudgels with the council about the problem in the Queen’s Road area where fly tippers regularly leave waste at the A3 end of the roads leading off Burlington Road and commercial waste is frequently mixed in with residential waste from the flats above the shops and cafes there.

The Lib Dem Focus team are getting results but with the local Tory councillors showing little interest, we need everyone to report fly tipping when it happens and the council to devise pro-active policies to deal with hot spots.

We will keep you updated of developments.
