Election statement 2014

I was first elected in the by-election in Surbiton Hill on 15th September 2011.

I have lived in the same house in the Surbiton Hill Ward for the last 27 years and have brought up our 4 children in an area which I believe to be one of the best places to raise a family with its mixture of facilities and amenities including its riverside, heritage, safe environment and location on the outskirts of London.

I am a recently retired accountant and have spent most of my career in the commercial world until my final position which was running a grant making charity supporting 2 schools and young people and young people’s organisations in Southwark. My career has therefore given me experience in the financial world and means I have the financial background to be familiar with the financial plans of the Council and my charity experience working with disadvantaged young people gives me an insight into the challenges being faced by our current school and university graduates seeking employment at the current time.

I was elected in a by-election in 2011 and have been very involved in the ward since that time. I have been a supporter and ‘Friend’ of the Rose Theatre since it started and was very privileged to be appointed as a Council nominated Trustee to the Rose recently because I believe the Rose makes a major contribution to the cultural life and commercial well-being of Kingston.

I look forward to being able to continue working hard to represent everyone who lives in Surbiton Hill and, being retired, means I have the time and commitment to improve the area in which we live.
