Kingston Lib Dems support Kingston Rowing Club

Kingston’s Liberal Democrat Administration has pledged to take a report in July to the Meeting of the Council’s Executive that will ensure that Kingston Rowing Club is safe for future generations.

Cllr Simon James, who has Sport in his portfolio, added:

“We all know that one of the biggest assets of the borough is the River Thames and I support the work of the Rowing Club. Locally the Liberal Democrats have committed to either protecting or re-providing leisure facilities for our residents and we want to continue to ensure that participation levels in sport and physical activity remain among the highest in the country.”

The Lib Dem administration believe there may be some misunderstandings in the community about the future of the Kingston Rowing Club in Canbury Gardens and we want to ensure false rumours that the Club needs saving are quashed.

The Canbury Boathouse is currently the subject of negotiation between the Borough Valuer’s Office about renewal of the terms of their lease but I cannot see any reason why we will not be able to secure a satisfactory outcome for the Club. We are certainly not looking to close the Rowing Club as it’s clearly a resource very much appreciated by our residents.
