Lib Dems demand transparency from opposition

Kingston Lib Dems have demanded that local Conservative councillors reveal the details of their opposition amendment to the budget to allow for proper transparency and scrutiny.

At last night’s Budget Scrutiny, Conservative Leader Howard Jones admitted that he had been “preparing an opposition budget” some weeks ago, and so would be bringing suggestions to the Full Council meeting on Thursday.

As Cllr Jones and Nick Kilby were given detailed breakdowns of the administration’s budget and One Council savings two weeks ago – it seems only fair than prospective changes from the Tory Group should undergo the same level of scrutiny because every penny of spending and saving needs to be credible. It affects the residents of the borough.

The request was put to Howard Jones in a letter from the Council Leader this morning.
