New Malden police stations under threat

Two police bases are set to close in New Malden

Following a flawed consultation by the Mayor of London, two police bases are set to close in New Malden.

The Labour Mayor is set to shut both bases in New Malden despite rising crime levels and protests from local residents.

Local campaigner Kim Bailey said, “New Malden residents need visible police and access to a police station to be safe.”

“The Focus Team will continue to campaign against these closures and the disastrous police number cuts.”

In February 2015 Kingston Borough had 327 police officers. This fell to just 270 this October - a loss of 57 officers.

It’s not surprising crimes like burglary are rising (a 44% increase last year).
