Hogsmill River hit twice in a week by pollution

Liberal Democrat Councillors Jon Tolley, Liz Green, Hilary Gander and Malcolm Self hold tehir noses outside Thames Water's Hogsmill Sewage Treatment Plant

The Hogsmill River is a globally rare chalkstream river and many species that inhabit it are sensitive to changes in water quality. Despite this, the Hogsmill River was recently hit by two different sewage pollution incidents in the space of just four days.

Kingston Lib Dems have reacted with alarm and we are seeking answers and assurances from Thames Water who were responsible for both incidents. We are additionally pressing the Environment Agency to take effective action against Thames Water to ensure robust, permanent solutions to protect and enhance the Hogsmill as it flows through our area.

Breaking - Canbury Business Park application withdrawn


CNM Estates have withdrawn their controversial planning application to build a 14-storey tower block on the site of Canbury Business Park.

This retreat follows intense local opposition to the plans.  Residents in neighbouring streets felt the tower block was too high for the area and many were appalled that the plan included very little provision for affordable housing. It would also have required the re-siting of a school.
