Kingston Liberal Democrats have launched a ‘Homes not Towers’ campaign to make one last push to stop plans for rows of tower blocks on the Toby Jug site at Tolworth roundabout.

Planning permission for the massive scheme was refused last year, but site owners Meyer Homes appealed to the Planning Inspectorate. Then earlier this year, in a secret meeting, Kingston Conservatives voted not to defend the Council’s decision at the appeal.

This Tory cave in means the public inquiry will now bizarrely not fully hear the reasons for refusing the applications unless residents step in to do the council’s job!

So Liberal Democrats, working with local residents, are planning to defend the decision, argue for more appropriate housing and against this over-development. Tolworth’s Lib Dem team of Vicki Harris, councillors Thay Thayalan, Malcolm Self and Lorraine Rolfe join Parliamentary campaigner Ed Davey to launch the campaign.
