I have been a councillor representing St Marks ward, Surbiton for the past eight years. I spent a year on the Executive and four years as Deputy Leader. I am now standing for election in Grove ward – because I love Kingston Town, and in the past few years have found myself spending more and more time in the centre. I have been proud to work for the residents of St Marks over the years but believe it’s now time for me to be in the heart of the Borough and the new opportunities and challenges that will result.
“Putting the Thames back into Kingston” sums up my ambition with regard to our wonderful stretch of the River Thames. I also feel passionately about keeping our town centre prosperous and safe after dark. I have a background in International business so feel well placed to deal with local business leaders. As a trustee of the Rose Theatre board I have played an important role in supporting the theatre, not just within the Council but also with significant private funders. The Rose is only one part of an overall ambition to promote Kingston as a regional cultural centre.
Liberal Democrats have 17 seats on Kingston Council. The Conservatives have 28 seats, and Labour have 2 seats. One seat is currently vacant following the death of Cllr Chrissie Hitchcock.
