I first stood as a Liberal Democrat candidate for Grove ward in 1990, and have had the privilege of representing the residents of this area ever since. I would describe myself as a community politician, and would very much like to continue working for, and representing local people.
Some of the achievements I have been involved with over the years, include:
In 1994 I was part of the Administration which introduced the Neighbourhood Committee structure which devolved local decision making to a local level and made politicians more accountable to the community they serve. At this time, the Grove team started on the work to regenerate the Apple Market and the Ancient Market and opening up of the riverside. I remain committed to this work.
In 1997/8 I had the honour of being Mayor. I enjoyed my year in office as I learnt so much about the Royal Borough, all the wonderful communities that thrive and the hard work that voluntary groups put into keeping the community alive.
Since 2002 I have been Chair of Kingston Town Neighbourhood Committee and pushed on with the work to regenerate the Ancient market Place, making it a car free zone and open space for all to enjoy. Today the whole area is now an open space right up to the High Street with cafes and a fountain that children love to play in during the summer.
On a personal note, I am married and live in Fairfield East. I am employed full time as a Support Worker for the Home Treatment Team and South West London and St George’s Mental Health Team.
