Kingston’s Executive Member for Transport has welcomed the judicial review challenging the Government’s sanctioning of a third runway at Heathrow airport.
Cllr Bob Steed said: “The Council’s Liberal Democrat administration is opposed to expansion of Heathrow.
“To be serious about fighting climate change, we must say no to a third runway. The 220,000 extra flights would make it virtually impossible for the UK to meet our legally binding carbon emission targets.
“The Government’s consultation was fundamentally flawed - despite 90% of respondents opposed to Heathrow expansion, the Government went ahead with its approval.”
Cllr Steed signed the Royal Borough up to the ‘2M’ Group of Councils, concerned about the environmental impact of Heathrow expansion on their communities.
