Election statement

I and my wife Angela have lived in Tolworth since 1987; I have a step son and two grandchildren. Although now retired from full time employment, I am an accountant by profession and for almost 30 years have worked in the construction and housing industry.

I was first elected to Kingston Council in 1998 representing Malden Manor Ward. Following the ward boundary changes in 2002 I was elected for Tolworth & Hook Rise ward and was re-elected in 2006. I have been a member of the Liberal Democrats since the merger of the Liberals and SDP in the late 80s, previously having been a founding member of the SDP. Since the early 1980s I have been an ardent support of the work of the voluntary sector and have held various posts in organisations as well as being a volunteer. For almost 10 years I was the Treasurer of the Magic Roundabout Charity.

As a councillor, I first started as opposition spokesperson on Community Services and Housing. When the Liberal Democrats took control of the council in 2002 I was elected to the Executive. Over the past 8 years of our administration some of the areas that I have been responsible for are: Adult Community Services, Housing, Environmental Health, Trading Standard, Cemeteries & Crematorium and the Voluntary Sector. I am currently the Executive Member for Health & Adult Community Services which continues to cover some of the areas above and also incorporates the Safer Kingston Partnership (crime prevention), and Drug and Alcohol issues.
