Election statement

I am an active local campaigner and New Malden resident. I was drawn to join the Liberal Democrats and later to stand as a councillor because of their ability to make a difference for local residents.

Too often so called “pavement politics” has been derided but it is what happens around us in our local environment that matters most to people. Over the last 8 years I believe we have done a good job for local residents. When we took over the back log in road repairs was enormous and we had one of the lowest recycling rates in the country. That backlog is now much reduced (and we have had the good financial management to be able to put in emergency funding to deal with this winter’s damage) and we have one of the highest recycling rates in the country.

I have represented this ward on the Council since 2002 and actively supported local residents on many campaigns most recently helping to organise the protests to South West Trains which forced them not to permanently close the main entrance to the station.
