Kingston Lib Dems win Chessington South by-election

Local resident, Andrew Mackinlay, has been elected to serve on Kingston Council as a result of the recent Chessington South by-election.

The by-election was called when former Lib Dem councillor Patricia Bamford decided to step down in late 2020 and delayed because of restrictions due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Cllr Andrew Mackinlay said, "This result is a huge honour and I’m grateful for all the support I received across Chessington & Malden Rushett. Whoever you voted for in the by-election, please do contact me if you need our help."


The full results were as follows:

1,387 (37.9%) Liberal Democrats
1,278 (34.0%) Conservatives
451 (12.0%) Labour
378 (10.1%) Kingston Independent Residents Group
139 (3.7%) Green Party
92 (2.5%) The Official Monster Raving Loony Party*
7 (0.2%) TUSC

*Combined votes of all thirteen The Official Monster Raving Loony Party candidates.
