CONTINUING THE BATTLE TO KEEP OUR OPEN SPACES

Liberal Democrats Councillors, Mary, Liz and Yogan, continue fight against building on the Metropolitan Open Land at the Filter Beds on Portsmouth Road, Surbiton.

Back in January this year, Councillors on Kingston’s Planning Committee refused planning permission for 64 floating flats, restaurant and marina with small reserve. As ward Councillors we have actively campaigned against this overdevelopment.

We have written, attended public meetings and spoken at the Committee. We’ve spoken to many residents across Surbiton there are different views, but most people told us they want something better.

All this week, the appeal is being held. A National Planning Inspector will make a decision on if this building should be built. Both Kingston Council and the Friends of Seething Wells are defending the refusal. Lib Dem Cllr Liz Green has spoken, as has Cllr Barry O’Mahony and Edward Davey MP.

“We will do everything we can to help prevent this unsuitable development, and work with the community to come up with something better and more fitting.” says Liz.

“I have been listening to number of contributions, especially from a local resident Brian Wilson (very good) of our Major & Sensitive Public Enquiry of the Surbiton Filter Bed, which was rejected unanimously by Cross Party Councillors of RBK- Development Control Committee. Our Simon T& Roger H are excellent and now listening John refer Bats & Ecological survey/impact.” says Cllr Yogan Yoganathan.
