The Government and TfL have agreed, as part of a bailout deal, that free travel on public transport from under-18s will be stopped, and free travel for older people using Freedom passes will start after 9am.
By stopping free travel for under-18s across London, our young people will see a disastrous impact on their independence, as well as their opportunities for education and employment, as well as cultural and sporting opportunities.
The new restrictions for when older people can use their Freedom passes will also force many to resort to their cars and add greater congestion, or pay the fare.
As we rebuild our city after the coronavirus lockdown, our resources should be focused on our young people, whose prospects have taken a huge hit.
We, the undersigned, call on the Government to reconsider their agreement with TfL and continue free public transport for under-18s and remove the time limits imposed on older people's Freedom passes.
