The London Evening Standard newspaper has today revealed that the “cheapest [Council] in London is Liberal-Democrat run Kingston”.
Of the 32 London boroughs, Kingston local authority pays its councillors the lowest ‘basic allowance’ in the capital.
As an administration, we give councillors the lowest pay in London – and the full-time Council Leader receives one of the lowest allowances in the capital.
It is outrageous that residents in Tory Croydon pay almost 1.5million pounds a year for their councillors - whilst the Conservative Leader of Kensington and Chelsea receive over £65,000 in pay, with an £21,000 top-up from his work in a lobbying organisation.
In Kingston we believe in value in money: elected representatives should not be getting rich off rate-payers’ taxes.
