Last year, the Lib Dems campaigned for a consistent 20mph speed limit across Surbiton (excluding main roads). Over a thousand residents responded, with a clear majority in support.
Despite all the evidence on the reduction of both accidents and the severity of injuries, the Tory-led administration in Kingston rejected the proposals.
Local campaigner, Chris NowakowskI says: “So, we are still left with a confusing and piecemeal situation where some short stretches of road are 20mph while others, even sidestreets, are 30mph. “
The Lib Dems have pushed for the decision to be ‘called in’ (reconsidered by full Council) and this will be heard on 19th April.
