Last night the Liberal Democrat controlled Council gave the go-ahead for an 80-bed Dementia Care Home to meet a pressing need in the borough.
This fulfills one of the key commitments in their Manifesto last year to provide care for our growing elderly population.
The Development Control Committee gave planning permission for the new dementia home to be built at Browns Road in Surbiton, on the site of a former care home.
The Committee asked for the gardens to be specially designed to meet the needs of the future residents, and requested that landscape designs should be considered at a future meeting.
Committee Chair, Cllr Patricia Bamford said “I’m delighted we are able to deliver this high-quality facility for our older residents. It will meet an important need, and we’re hoping it will be opened by the end of 2020.”
