Petition prompts Council climbdown over Kingston homeless this Christmas

Local residents and your local Liberal Democrat Focus Team have secured a concession from Tory-run Kingston Council, allowing volunteers to help feed those in need in Norbiton at Christmas.

Earlier this month, the Council confirmed its intention to close Piper Hall on Cambridge Road Estate for two weeks over the Christmas period. Volunteers have been using the hall as the home of the Tuesday and Thursday Lunch Clubs, offering hot food to homeless and vulnerable people in Kingston.

A petition, which went up online and was offered on local doorsteps by Norbiton's Liberal Democrat team, garnered almost 450 signatures, prompting the council's climbdown this week.

Piper Hall will now remain available to the volunteers for their regular sessions throughout Christmas. Thanks to all of you who signed the petition.
