Kingston Hospital to charge ‘blue badge’ holders despite Lib Dem backing for free parking.
The Liberal Democrats on Kingston Council have expressed their disappointment at the decision to charge disabled drivers for parking at Kingston Hospital.
Last month, Kingston Council's Health Overview Panel (HOP), comprising both Lib Dem and Tory Councillors, proposed to Kingston Hospital that it allow holders of blue badges to park for nothing for the first three hours. However, Kingston Hospital Foundation Trust has chosen to proceed with its plan to charge disabled drivers a maximum flat rate daily charge of £2.
“The HOP is disappointed with the Trust's decision to charge Blue Badge holders,” said Munir Ravalia, Liberal Democrat Councillor for Coombe Vale and the Chair of the panel. “We were unanimous in our view that NO charges should be levied for those with disabilities.”
“We have made our views known strongly to the Chief Executive and the Trust,” Cllr Ravalia continued.
“The HOP will monitor the Hospital's decision and implementation closely.”
