Toby Jug: residents win appeal

…despite Conservatives caving in to developer

Local residents have won the appeal against the Meyer Homes development at Tolworth’s Toby Jug site despite the Conservative Council giving up.

In a secret meeting earlier this year, Kingston Conservatives voted not to defend the Council’s decision at the appeal. It was left to local residents and Lib Dems to take the fight to the appeal.

The appeal inspector said the legal agreement negotiated between the Council and Meyer Homes didn’t guarantee the promised community benefits including affordable housing. But Meyer Homes have submitted an application for even more homes which will be considered by the Conservative dominated planning committee soon.
