Kingston Council have confirmed that 500 new trees will be planted across the borough this Autumn.
Goal: 2,000 trees in 4 years
It is all part of Kingston Liberal Democrats plans to mitigate vehicle pollution and help return the Borough to its leafy suburb status.
Empty tree pits, that have been neglected over the last four years, across the Borough will start to be filled from November with busy roads prioritised to support trapping asthma-inducing pollutants.
Councillor Hilary Gander, Lead member for Environment & Sustainable Transport, added, “Poor air quality across Kingston is posing a risk to everyone’s health but it’s especially bad for children and for anyone who has breathing difficulties. We need to tackle it and planting more trees is a first step.”
